Our Mission
To provide quality training and technical assistance to all water and wastewater systems
in rural South Carolina"
The South Carolina Rural Water Association
(SCRWA) is a nonprofit benefit corporation, incorporated on March 3, 1977 under the laws
of South Carolina, to provide on-site technical assistance and training to water and
wastewater personnel whose systems serve populations of 10,000 or fewer people.
Approximately 75% of the state's water systems serve communities with populations less
than 10,000.
SCRWA is governed by a Board of Directors
consisting of three members from each of the six congressional districts; thereby assuring
equal representation for each part of the state. Board members are elected to serve a
three-year term at the annual business meeting held during the annual conference.
SCRWA is an affiliate of the National Rural
Water Association (NRWA) which is the largest utility member association in the nation.
NRWA's headquarters are located in Duncan, Oklahoma. NRWA's web site is www.nrwa.org.
Training
The Association coordinates training sessions through speakers who are experts in their
respective fields. The training sessions allow water and wastewater professionals to
upgrade their skills thus improving the quality of their utility's service and protecting
the health of their community and state.
Training sessions are held throughout the year at various locations across the state,
thereby making it easier for systems to send as many employee's as possible without
putting a burden on the system. Most sessions are free of charge and offer continuing
education credits good toward operator certification.
Sessions can usually be held on most topics that are of interest to the water and
wastewater personnel. Some of the past topics at these sessions have included:
Regulatory updates
Chlorine safety
Hydrant maintenance
Pump O&M
Sewer system rehab
OSHA regulations
The Association also holds an annual conference and exhibit show for water and wastewater
operators, board members, managers, and office personnel.
Exhibitors display the latest technologies, guest speakers address current issues, and
an awards luncheon recognizes the best of the best in our industry.
